Biography

Hometown: Ekiti, Nigeria

My name is Ruth Olayemi Adeniyi, from Nigeria. I am a PhD candidate in Second Language Acquisition with a minor in Curriculum and Instruction, specializing in heritage language acquisition, bilingual education, and identity formation among African immigrant communities in the U.S.  With over five years of cumulative experience teaching French and ENG 100 (College Composition), I am delighted to be teaching ESL117 as part of the GELLT program this fall. I am fluent in three languages — English, Yoruba, and French — and I’m always excited about opportunities to meet and work with other multilingual students. I have also been a Writing Center Instructor since August 2024. Outside of teaching and research, my favorite thing to do in Madison is take evening walks by the lake, especially around Brittingham park.
